Aqua Ohio released a statement saying that they will replace 1,300 linear feet of water main along North Washington Street in Tiffin. It will start at the intersection of North Washington, Hudson and Harrison Streets and will continue to North Washington and Olive Street. 

The goal is to replace cast-iron pipes that are two and six inches in diameter and have been in service for over 100 years. Workers will add three new fire hydrants to improve fire fighter access, and will install five new valves in order to  make future maintenance and repairs easier to perform.

Crews will work in this area Monday through Friday between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Drivers and pedestrians need to use extreme caution while going through this area. Expect lane closures, parking restrictions, moving machinery and open trenches.

There will be 43 properties impacted with water service interruptions as they are connected to the new main at the conclusion of the project. The company will notify customers before the interruptions.

Columbian High School teacher Christopher Monsour, was announced as the District 1 Teacher of the year by the Ohio Department of Education. This will now put him in the running for the 2026 Ohio Teacher of the Year. 

He will compete with 11 other teachers to be selected as one of the four teachers to move on to the last phase of becoming Ohio Teacher of the Year. The winner will then move on to represent Ohio nationwide for the 2025-26 school year. 

Monsour teaches high school biology, environmental science, and anatomy and physiology. 

During the Blanchard Valley Health System Board of Trustees meeting, they nominated new Board and Committee members. During the meeting, the Board appointed Joseph Longo, founder of Velosio, as Board Chair, Jeff Shrader, Senior Vice President at Farmers and Merchants State Bank, as Vice Chair, and added Michael Denike, DO, a cardiologist with Heart and Vascular Specialists of Northwest Ohio. BVHS appointed Kelly Koenig, MD, to the Quality Committee and Matt Plotts to the Finance Committee.
