Brant Named New Findlay Rotary Club President

Leah Brant became the president of the Findlay Rotary Club during the club’s weekly meeting on Wednesday. 

 

Brant has a doctorate of education from the University of Findlay for studies on the benefits of therapy dogs. At UF she sits on multiple committees while serving as an advisor for two student organizations. Before heading to UF, she taught at Donnell Middle School teaching 6th graders, and was a finalist for the Golden Apple in the middle school division and became a member of the Golden Apple Academy.

 

Brant also serves on the board for Good Shepherd Home in Fostoria.

Arcadia Fireworks to Pay Tribute to 4th of July and Remembrance

On Sunday, Arcadia will hold their fireworks in honor of Independence Day, but also in remembrance of fire chief and member of the Washington Township Fire Department for 45 years, Jim Breyman.

 

Breyman and his son, Ryan, would go to different states to buy various fireworks and hold their own 4th of July party. In December, Jim passed away, and the community wanted to come together and hold a similar event to honor his legacy and love of fireworks.

 

The event will be at the Arcadia Community Park, 301 W. Brown Rd., starting at 4 p.m. and will go until 10 p.m. Ryan will handle the fireworks show along with his colleagues of the Washington Township Fire Department.

UF's Safety and Emergency Management is Recognized

Lexipol recognized the University of Findlay’s Office of Campus Safety and Emergency Management for excellence in policy management and training in 2023. The school has received recognition for this achievement for the fourth year in a row. Lexipol is a program that is the nation’s leading provider of policy, training, and wellness support for first responders and public servants. UF’s progress is tracked by the Lexipol Connect Program that grades them on five metrics of performance. The school received Gold status as the highest level.

Alabama to Perform at Ohio State Fair

The Ohio State Fair will be welcoming the well-kown country band Alabama July 25. Alabama formed in 1969 by cousins Randy Owen, Tedd Gentry, and Jeff Cook. There best known hits are "Tennessee River", "Love in the First Degree", "Mountain Music, Dixieland Delight", "If You're Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band)", and "Song of the South". Wyandot County Jail Construction

State Senator Bill Reineke announced that $23.8 million is going to Wyandot County for construction and renovation of local jails.

 

$19.4 million will be used to construct a new jail to increase capacity that will include available beds for men and women with special needs. The remaining $4.3 million will be used to upgrade security and other needed renovations at the current facility. 

 

These funds were given to the county by the Ohio Jail Safety and Security program.
