The Distinguished Service Medallion was given to Trooper Casimir A. Von Sacken from Colonel Charles A. Jones. They honored Von Sacken for his actions that took place early in the morning on July 15.

 

Trooper Van Sacken noticed a vacant house fire on Mott Avenue near Elgin in Toledo while driving someone home who was arrested for an OVI. He pulled his car over and radioed the Bowling Green Dispatch Center to request the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department. While waiting for help, he acted fast by alerting the next-door neighbors of the fire as their sliding door melted. The neighbors made it out safely as the fire spread quickly and potentially saved their lives.

 

Trooper Von Sacken began his career in 2010 in the 150th Academy Class. In April of the following year, his commission was earned, and he was assigned to the Lima Post. In 2012; he was transferred to the Bowling Green Post.
