The public Utilities Commission of Ohio has awarded $23,500 of grant money to go to the fire department for hazardous materials training. The training is to make sure personnel are acquired in public safety and use proper techniques when managing a hazardous materials spills and releases that occur during tansportation.
There grant money can be used for courses on first response awarness, operations and technician, highway response specialist, incident command and tank car specialist. It can also be used for qualifying training for intermodal hazardous materials, incident and rail hazardous response training, rail/highway incident response training, and hazardous materials planning and survey studies.
An additional grant was given to the fire department from the Firehouse Subs Foundation for $21,589. This will go towards 24 new fire hose nozzles.
