The Tiffin Police Departments K-9 Unit will be making its return soon with Officer Elizabeth Miller starting her first day of training. A picture of Officer Miller was posted on social media Monday to let the public know about the news.
Since 2018 the department has not had a K-9 Unit in place until Tiffin Police Chief David Pauly started to talk about bringing back the program. To make this a reality the department needed $21,000.
The Kiwanis Club of Seneca County held fundraising events that would raise $30,770.54. All of the money came from t-shirt sales, dinners and community donations. As the department nearly reached their goal in July the Tiffin Bark Park, Inc.'s President Kieth Hodkinson reached out to help by making a donation. Hodkinson's donation was to honor his late dog, Ringo, by giving them a $1,000 check to help with equipment and training for the program.
Officer Miller is training with a two-year-old Belgian Malinois named Zeke. Training with Zeke could take 6-7 weeks depending on how well they work together.
