Final Sports Huddle of 2013

It seems like I am always saying it during The Northwest Ohio Orthopedics Sports Huddle (Live at Fricker's in Findlay... cheap plug ;) ) but I can't believe how time has flown! One minute we are talking high school football and the next it's spring training baseball with the Indians & Reds and it's basketball tournament time!

It has me thinking as I start my prep work for the final Sports Huddle of 2013 about this past season. While no doubt it is a lot of work and makes for some pretty long days I have been very lucky to get to meet a number of great people and hear about their stories. I am always impressed by the coaches & athletes that come through the show. They all have interesting stories to share and no one story is the same. The ones that stick with me most time aren't even about the games or the season but about what goes into the game. I have found that there are so many coaches in our area that are not only teaching the ins & outs of the game but also are helping to shape their athletes in to great young people and that is something I look to emulate through coaching my own team. The dedication of the athletes to their sport is something that I really admire. I can't imagine myself in high school getting up to get to a practice at 5 AM and rushing around to be in school by 7:50, the extra practice & film study that is required not to mention keeping up with all of the school work!

The Sports Huddle has given me the platform to talk to a number interesting people in the professional sports world. I've had the pleasure to interview athletes from our area who are now making waves in the NFL like Michael Preston from the Tennessee Titans who I took classes with at Heidelberg to Micah Hyde who will be a draft pick in this year’s NFL Draft and I covered with WFOB through his High School Career. It was great to talk baseball with Jim Rosenhaus from the Cleveland Indians, get broadcasting tips from the likes of Jeff Brantley & Jim Kelsch from the Cincinnati Reds. I get as excited as a 5 year old to talk "rasslin" with WWE Superstar Kofi Kingston & IMPACT Wrestling Star Joseph Park. I guess I can't forget to include Prime Wrestling Commissioner Vic Travaligante on that list as well (I know I would hear about it later!).

So as we get ready for the final Sports Huddle of the 2012-2013 season coming up on March 13th I would just like to say thank you to all the Coaches, Athletes, Athletic Directors & Media members for joining us this season and a big thanks to the staff of Fricker's in Findlay for having us! Also a big thank you to the listeners for the feedback throughout the year and for tuning in every week!
