AMERICAN GIRL TEA, HPD, FINDLAY

AMERICAN GIRL TEA: KAYA Registration is $7 per person, register by Thursday, August 21. Join Program Assistant Chris Allen on Saturday, August 23, and step back in time to 1764 to celebrate the American Girl Doll, Kaya. Tea will be served at 10:30am and 1pm in the Activity Barn at Litzenberg Memorial Woods. This program is great for girls, ages 7 to 12, with an adult companion; one adult is required for every two children. Participants are invited to bring their dolls and partake in a popular 18th century craft, and are welcome to enjoy snacks and games. Learn about the life of Kaya and the adventures she and the Nez Perce Tribe experienced. Share your adventures that you have had with your own American Girl Doll. Girls will get time to take pictures with their own doll and Kaya, in her tepee. Litzenberg Memorial Woods is located at 6100 U.S. Route 224, west of Findlay. ZONTA LANDINGS BOAT RENTALS, HPD, FINDLAY

ZONTA LANDINGS BOAT RENTALS OPEN MAY 24 THROUGH LABOR DAY Zonta Landing is a public boat livery concession that provides rentals of canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats at Riverside Park. Rentals are taken first come, first served. Canoes and kayaks may also be taken, by the renter, to other bodies of water within Hancock County with an advanced reservation through the HPD office. Equipment rates for canoes, kayaks, and pedal boats are $5 per ½ hour. The rental fee for an entire day is $25. Group outings with 6 or more watercrafts are discounted at the rate of $20 per day. All rates include life jackets, paddles, and sales tax. HPD boat livery operation is open from 1-7pm, weekends and holidays, beginning Saturday, May 24 through Monday, September 1 during good weather conditions. Last launch time for 1 hour rentals is 6pm and last launch time for ½ hour rentals is 6:30pm. Contact the HPD office for special arrangements on watercraft rentals. Periods of high water or hazardous weather could close the concession at the discretion of the HPD staff. The Wood County Historical Museum is pleased to host a nationally-recognized photography exhibit by Christopher Payne called Asylum: "Inside the Closed World of State Mental Hospitals". The exhibit and companion book will be in the new gallery space at the Wood County Historical Museum May 31 - November 16, 2014. An opening reception is planned for Friday, May 30, from 6-8pm, with Payne's remarks and book signing. This event is free and open to the public.

SPACEFLIGHT SIMPLIFIED, HPD, FINDLAY

Spaceflight Simplified with Awesome Examples “Spaceflight Simplified with Awesome Examples” will be a discussion of ways of overcoming gravity and using it to our advantage in space. Come, listen, and learn from J.T. Senghas of the Millstream Astronomy Club on Saturday, August 23 at 9pm. This program will be held at Riverbend Recreation Area, in Shelter 5. Join us to discover how some satellites stay above the same points on earth, how gravity assisted the Voyager missions to tour the planets, and why gravity allows certain points in space to be used efficiently. These are just a few examples of the topics of discussion. The information covered will be light in technical aspects and will include numerous images in space. Riverbend Recreation Area is located at 16618 TR, off SR 568, east of Findlay. This program is provided in cooperation with the Hancock Park District.
